The breakfast junkie that I am has finally discovered her nirvana. I spent years living not to far away from this place, and don't know how I managed to miss out on their stellar foodstuffs. My husband, who lived down the block from this place before we met, couldn't believe I hadn't been their either. So when he was craving this place, I tagged along for the visit. I guess it's an institution and a neighborhood favorite. The staff here is friendly and very efficient, serving with a smile and my coffee cup was always full. The staff seemed to get along with each other extremely well, and that vibe rubbed off to the customers. I mean, screw Disneyland, this is the happiest place on earth. The place is only open for breakfast and lunch, but the menu is still huge, filled with regular breakfast favorites, and a huge selection of sandwiches for lunch. Me, I had a strip steak. When ordering, I didn't want potatoes, and the waitress informed me that I had the choice of cottage cheese, french fries, grilled tomatoes, pancakes, or fresh fruit; I love having choices! I went with the fruit. My husband had a Santa Fe sandwich with fries. We were both happy campers with our food. My steak was excellent, cooked to a bloody-red perfection, with very little fat. My husband's sandwich looked delicious, made with carved turkey and ham, and topped with fresh avocado. We went home full and very happy! And the prices are reasonable as well, my steak the most expensive thing on the menu, only at $13. Well worth the price, and then some. This is truly one of my new favorite go-to breakfast places!

We used to go there at least once per month for Sunday breakfast. We have many friends who frequent there and loved the place. We were fans of the food and service until a recent disturbing visit. Yesterday we went there for Sunday breakfast. As usual, they were crowded so we had to wait on a table of 4. There was a white family of 4 who came in a few minutes after us and they were told to wait also. There was as table available near the front. The owner seated the white family ahead of us and told us he was preparing a booth for us (which was in the rear near the washroom). My wife asked him why did he seat the people who came in after us first. His reply was "I pay the bills here and I can seat people when and how I want to." I said what. He repeated it, this time louder saying, I am the owner and I can seat people how I want. When you pay the bills you can seat people how you want. We decided to walk out. On our way out he stated to not come back. Well, he got his wish.

You can feel the good vibes once you walk in. Right after being greeted by a fine gentleman (who I believe is the owner) behind the counter. As I was escorted to my table by a lovely waitress, it felt like walking thru an old school pancake house for some reason. Well now this is were the experience turned kind of bad. For being a pancake house there isn't much too choose from the menu, great pancake variety, of course. However, I decided to go with one the breakfast specials "Club #3" it consists of two; French toasts, bacon, sausage links, eggs and a juice. Therefore, I was like this looks like a deal. God! I was wrong. The first item to arrive was my orange juice, in a freaking shot! Looking like glass (my first impression was, did I just ordered from the kids menu or something) seriously the size of that glass of was ridiculously small, especially for an adult. As far as the other items were standard, however, the scramble eggs were good they tasted fresh. Overall, it wasn't worth $8+ for a standard breakfast. I don't know perhaps other things on the menu are better, but the service here is great.

Every month, my company holds breakfast meetings here with our medical director. The food was always delicious and the service was great. They even get all their eggs and most ingredients from local farms in the area, which I think is great. But recently, the owner screamed at one of my co-workers in front of a dining room of customers. Since two clinics come to the meetings, we needed to put the bill on two credit cards and the owner had a fit about it. It was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. So, needless to say - we won't be back....

"I'm a simple man. I like pretty, dark-haired women and breakfast foods." - Ron Swanson Channel your inner-Ron by enjoying a fantastic breakfast in a place that serves you quickly and accurately. And if there is one thing that is true about breakfast eaters, they're not in the mood to deal with issues. If the South-of-the-Border skillet is on the Specials board, get it. And if you like a little breakfast adventure, get the Hawaii 5-0 omelet. The coffee could stand to be a little stronger, but it's certainly good for medicinal purposes. My wife and I will be returning with our business again in short order.

I would have never found this place if it wasn't for Yelp. :) One of my fellow RNs and I were looking for a decent place for breakfast before a long day at work. Given the reviews, we gave this place a shot. Service was friendly and quick. Food helpings were very generous AND yummy. Coffee was overflowing - just the way I like it! As my friend put it, "this place is comfy." We're definitely coming back!

This place is your old school, 1970's pancake house with menu and decor to match - without the charm or friendliness. If you have to eat at the Golden Griddle Pancake House make sure you sit WELL AWAY from central register area, sit on the right hand side. The register area operates as the watching platform for the owner to constantly and audibly chastise the waitstaff (and assume his wife) about what is or not going on at each table. Not to mention I do not want to hear his whining about how tough business is, how the sky is falling in and just scowling. Talk about a downer and a totally uncomfortable environment. 1 star for the nice lady who served me and 1 star for the average food.

I really wanted to like this place; it's so close to my house. I went with my husband, son, and my parents. First off, their parking lot is seriously small (maybe 10-ish spots) and we had to park on the street. Okay, fine. Then we walk in and realize the restaurant is very small and crowded. Not crowded like too many people (well, it kind of was) but crowded like too tight and the furniture was too close together. It wasn't comfortable. We went to a very cramped corner booth that felt claustrophobic. Oh well, onto the meal. We placed our order and it took a while for the lunches to come for 4 people and a child. Anyway, my final verdict is that my non-fried chicken sandwich was oily and greasy and it didn't sit well with me. I forgot what else we ordered, it was just "Meh", but I'll never forget my greasy sandwich. Then we paid and it was much higher than we expected. We went to the tiny women's bathroom. There's 2 stalls for all the female patrons! Women pee a lot & bring their children into the rest room, Mr. owner! What were you thinking? Plus, the restaurant was exceedingly loud. We could barely hear each other talk. Just hearing others reviews of this restaurant and the mean/rude owner on Yelp and elsewhere, I am saddened to say I even tried this place. Everything's cramped in this restaurant: parking, seating, bathroom, never again...I rather go to Karson's on 95th and that's saying something. If I had to choose, I really rather go to Huck's on Cicero or Chuck's.

As far as I am concerned this is one of the better breakfast spots on the far south side of Chicago, they are not too large and neither too small. Seating is always quick and efficient and greeted with a smile and genuine conversation. The wait staff is friendly and efficient with the orders. The food is hot or the correct temperature when it is brought to the table. My only indifference is Golden Griddle is a little pricey for breakfast food, other than that their all good.

I would like to begin by noting that I am not a morning person. Not in any way. I will sometimes not shower if it means I can sleep longer. I will sometimes rearrange plans to ensure that I do not have to get up early. Last Saturday morning I got up one hour earlier than needed just to give myself enough time to go to Golden Griddle. It must be love but it's over (for) now. Sorry for the horrible early 90's song reference...or is it horrible? I mean really I don't know how they do it? How every time I go here, the omelet's are just as glorious as they were the last time I was here! What is the secret, Greek man that owns the restaurant? What is the secret to your huge, fluffy and flavorful omelets?! I'm beginning to notice that with breakfast places, I tend to order the same thing every time I go there. Golden Griddle is no different, their veggie omelet is outstanding. Always has been and always will be. The veggie are endless, the eggs are super fluffy and everything about it is awesome. The hash browns it comes with are always cooked well too. Sometimes they can be super soggy or really hard and burnt. Never here, seriously NEVER. The place is usually busy, and rightfully so. The staff here knows what they are doing. You will be in and out in no time if need be. If ever on the South Side between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. do not pass this up!

The food is a bit pricey, however the serving of food is done rapidly. If you are ever in the Evergreen Park stop in.

I had a very bad experience at this restaurant on Father's Day. I went the the restaurant alone, and at 9:00 a.m., was seated at a small table for two. My waitress was pleasant and efficient. After eating my food, I continued to sit at the table to enjoy a 2nd cup of coffee. The owner came to my table and asked me when I was going to leave. I told him that I wanted another cup of coffee, but he continued to stand over my table and harass me about leaving, because the restaurant had people waiting to be seated. I immediately got up and said never mind, but that I wouldn't be back. He got loud and continued to berate me, saying that I was rude for not letting his waiting customers have the table. He grabbed my check and said I would not have to pay, but at this point, I was already humiliated. I checked my watch and noticed that I had only been in the restaurant 25 minutes. I also noticed that there were other people in the restaurant who had been there as long as I had, yet they weren't asked to leave. I am a professional African American woman, a principal of a public school, and I have NEVER been treated so rudely in any restaurant. The restaurant owner has a lot to learn about respecting customers. Dawn Scarlett

Standard diner food with consistent, perfectly-cooked breakfast. Never been here for lunch, but the breakfast offerings are yummy. The waffle is especially good. Bacon is often dry and crumbly, but nothing too bad. I think the prices are maybe a dollar or two more than they should be, but it's nothing outrageous. The service is so quick, you will think that they've read your minds and started cooking before you ordered.

I've been coming to this place for years. The food is good, the waitresses are nice. The owner is a very rude person. We were having breakfast (3) of us, and he seated a party of 12 directly next to us. The upstairs area is smaller. Mind you my complaint is not about the party of 12, but while they were getting the table ready, he had at least 3 bus people, 2 waitresses and himself crowded into the tiny area as we were attempting to eat our breakfast. When we left, I told him I had a complaint, and he yelled at me and told me never to come back. He never took the it e to listen to why I was upset. Again it was not because of the party of 12, but because him and his staff continued to get in our area, and made it very hard for us to have our breakfast. I mentioned to him that there are other places in the area to eat breakfast, his response was go there. Disappointed that he couldn't listen to a customer. We weren't looking for a free meal, just an apology.

Pretty good eats for a quick filling breakfast. Not anything terribly spectacular, but definitely serves it's purpose very well. Staff is nice and super quick. Would go back again, no questions.

Once upon a time, there were the best pancakes ever. The End The Sequel The skillets, and all of the other stuff on the menu is pretty rockin' as well. And the staff have been trained as ninjas. Super fast, pancake serving ninjas. Go eat there. No, it's probably not worth a trip to Evergreen Park, but if you end up there, it's probably as good as you can do for brunch.

This place is perfect for breakfast. Great service. Fast and efficient. Didn't wait too long for food and food was great. If anything the orange juice that came with my meal was a bit tiny. I like a hearty glass of OJ with my meal though I'm willing to over look that. Would come again.

Because it sort of lacks curb appeal-We lived down the street for about a year before we gave Golden Griddle a try. Anyway come to find out we had really been missing out. Griddle does all the classics really, really well! Now we go close to once a week, in fact i find myself craving the Spartan omelet with fresh spinach, mushrooms, tomato and feta! Great pancakes and French toast. Nothing elaborate or gourmet, just simple fare prepared very well. The same can be said about the good old fashioned service, same people always working. Very friendly and take good care of their customers. The decor is a bit dated but everything is well maintained and appears extremely clean. There are also several comfortable booths, lots of windows with natural light, which I like in a breakfast/diner establishment.

The fact that this is a first is proof that a lot of you are afraid of turning to a pillar of salt if you cross Western Ave. Golden Griddle is the quintessential pancake house. It does not belong in that category, it defines that category. Though very much like a Who concert on the weekends, you are going to know why when you get a seat. No matter how busy or crowded this place gets, the service and speed of the food defies reality. If you brought a paper with you, you better skim because you have about five minutes from the time your order hit the kitchen before it is coming back towards you. If you are looking for something mind-blowing or off-the-wall, this is not the place. If, on the other hand, you need a hearty breakfast or a quick lunch, everything on the menu is absolutely what you imagine it should be when you order. Yes, this is comfort food and no, the menu is not innovative or surprising, but it is early and is that really what you are looking for before you have your first cup. If you are worried you'll be spied outside of the city limits, it is five minute west from Beverly--tell the questioning party that you made a wrong turn and got lost. You will be seated, fed and appreciative in such short order, they will never suspect you intentionally left the Pod to try something suburban.

At 255pm we walked in and got a weird look. I said hi! 2 please. The owner looks at me and says " let me check to see if the kitchen open" I said " ur sign says ur open until 330". He says yes well there is no one in here-- as a party of three sits at the booth eating". That's really too bad because I live within walking distance and I will never eat here again. Huck Finn on Cicero will get all my money. And we eat out a lot. I think that is very rude. It was more than a half hour before closing.

First time I went had a wonderful experience that's why I decided to go again. Food was served quickly and love that you can pick where you want to sit at. Breakfast prices are cheaper than ihop that's why I haven't been back there and food is delicious. Love the window view and bathroom was very clean, not many places are like that. Haven't tried anything else from here but from the reviews will stick to ONLY breakfast, since you can't mess that up that badly.

This place has THE best Waffles I've ever eaten. Especially the Pecan one. You will notice on the menu they use a lot of high quality ingredients. Because of that the prices are a bit higher than the average diner, but you get what you pay for. It is worth it. Everything we tried was delicious. The coffee was also good and waitress was fast and efficient. As for the reviews accusing the old greek owner of racism; we did not see that at all. We are an interracial couple and used to getting stared at depending on the venue, but the owner was sincerely friendly and nice to us. On our way out we saw him laughing and talking at length with two african american women. Didn't seem like a racist to me. I will definitely be back here again.

I have always thought this was a great place. Today I had a take out Julienne Salad, which is about my 6th one. It was terrible the lettuce was small ,old and brown pieces near the end of a lettuce head. Very disappointed with this salad. They rinse the lettuce and the salad was full of water.

One of my favorite places to go for breakfast any day of the week. The food is good and very reasonable. I suggest as it as my go to whenever someone ask where to go eat on the south side. The owner is very nice and the wait staff although a bit moody at times is always helpful. I will continue to frequent here.

I gave two stars because I was full when I left but the experience getting there was less than desirable. My first observation was the high price for breakfast. That alone was going to make this my first and last visit. Next the waitress was less than motivated to serve us. I requested decaf coffee which was never served until after my second request. When the food arrived, I was astounded by how terrible the pancakes were. I've never had bad pancakes in a restaurant. They were missing whatever makes them airy and fluffy fluffy. They fell apart upon trying to pick up pieces with the fork. They literally had to be scooped up with the fork. I couldn't eat these and decided not to send them back because I was just ready to go. The spartan omelette and over $4 side of sausage we ordered was not bad, hence how I left full. The TINY cup of coffee was $1.99 so I told my husband I was going to stay for another cup. But before you know it, Ms. Less Than Motivated came and slapped our bill on the table and told us to have a nice day. Nope!!! Couldn't pay me to return.

Tasty, affordable breakfast! The employees are extremely nice and attentive which is always a plus. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are busy so there may be a wait. One of the waitresses sounds like Steven's mom from Mad TV. I LOVE sitting at her table because it always makes me smile when she talks. She is really sweet!!

Since I was back in town for a few days, a wonderful college friend and I decided to meet for brunch. She chose Golden Griddle, a nice hash house located on the very busy 95th St. Parking is a surprising task here on a weekend. I circled the block a few times in order to find a spot and was lucky on the 3rd try. Three times a charm! The service was pretty good and the selection was as one would come expect from a proper hash house: vast! The meal was pretty good, although I was given grits instead of oatmeal with my meal. Boo. Overall, not a bad place. Be vigilant with parking and patient with being seated.

I really enjoyed the pleasant family atmosphere. Each visit gets even better than before. I had a great steak and eggs on my first visit. Then I had a great Denver omelet the prices are very affordable, and there is ample parking. A great place to go after Sunday mass or, just because.

This is the kind of place you wish was open 24 hours. But it isn't. It opens early, and closes early. *tear* Which is a shame for me because I really enjoy my sleep on the weekends. But finally the opportunity came up to come here after my GF has been telling me about it since we started dating. And it really lived up to the hype. Delicious food, and plenty of it, at unbeatable prices. I had a bacon and cheese omlette, which came with hash browns, and your choice of toast or pancakes. Of course I chose the latter. My GF had pancakes and sausage links. Everything was excellent. Portion sizes were very generous, as I failed to finish all my food. Not often I can say that happens. Must note that the service is also quite friendly. I'm not a big breakfast eater, but I definitely will be back. Perhaps to try some of the sandwich items on their menu that sounded quite good.

The food had no taste. Oh it looked appealing but tasted like, well, nothing. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with monterey cheese and avocado, coleslaw, and chicken & rice soup. My companions had pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and a grilled cajun chicken salad. I sampled all the food and it all gets the same bland review. The service was hit or miss. It took quite a long time for our food to arrive. I could hear some of the workers being chastised at various times throughout my my visit. There was just an aura about this place that I can't really convey in words but could definitely feel while dining. I did enjoy my coffee though. It just didn't do it for me but I wish them well.

Wow! What a great little breakfast place. I only wished I had discovered it sooner. We came on a busy Saturday morning. I was expecting the punishment wait that is reserved for the weekends. But instead we were seated right away. Always a plus for this cranky morning princess. The service here is both friendly and fast. And I mean fast. There was barely time to order and take off my jacket before breakfast came out. To me, that's a good thing. The food was excellent. I had one of the specials that included a mini juice. I'm such a sucker for anything with juice included. But in this case, it was good. The eggs were cooked exactly how I wanted them, the bacon was meaty and the pancakes were fluffy. It didn't look like a lot on the plate, but half through I was waving the white flag because I was finished. So delicious and filling. I was set for the day. I also liked the fact that the whole atmosphere was pretty chill. You didn't have to deal with screaming and running kids. The waitresses didn't pressure you to pay and get out so they can turn over the table. It was a nice way to relax on a Saturday morning. Golden Griddle is now one of my new favorite places to grab a breakfast bite.
